What is an escape room?
Escape rooms are a growing trend offering an entertaining and thrilling experience. It is a real life escape adventure!
You and your friends are "locked" in a room. Your goal is to escape the room by solving puzzles and hunting for keys & codes throughout the room to open combination & key locks and ultimately the exit door. You must hurry! Your group has a 60 minute time limit - then you fail. Sounds like the scene of a suspense thriller movie?! Yep....and you are the real character.
Escape rooms provide a heart racing & mind bending "escape" from your regular routine and digital devices.
The Mystery at Hotel Vernal is Vernal's first escape room. The escape is an experience to share with others. The adventure ushers in real time bonding and team building among family, friends and coworkers. LabX escape room was introduced in 2021.
Can I reserve a special date/time?
If your group cannot meet the dates/times on the reservation site, we may be able to accommodate you at an early time or during the day. It will depend on the availability of the volunteers needed to monitor and reset the room. The escape room provides an exciting team building activity for you and your co-workers. What do I wear?
Dress comfortably and wear comfy shoes. You will be moving around the room(s) for an hour and may even be crawling on the floor. If the room has a fun theme - dress the part.
Also arrive with a full stomach, sober and empty bladder.
Can I bring my young children?
Yes....it is up to the discretion of the parent. We do not recommend bringing a child under 11. A pre-teen will quickly lose interest and become a distraction to your group. The room theme involves missing persons and the child should be mature enough to understand the theme.
How do I receive clues/hints in the room?
The game master will be watching your group with a closed circuit security camera. Most of the clues will be given on the countdown monitor screen. Once you get into the room, there is another way to talk to the game master you will discover during your escape.
Am I smart enough to escape?
If you are reading this webpage, you are smart enough! You do not need to be a mastermind, genius, member of Mensa or a puzzle fanatic to enjoy the escape room. There are a variety of puzzles, patterns and challenges that appeal to a spectrum of interests and strengths. The puzzles are best solved with practical, logical approaches. Usually the room puzzles do not involve more advanced than fourth grade math.
Am I really locked in? What if I am claustrophobic?
Yes you are locked in....sort of. Your group is locked in the room, but they are safe. In the room there is an emergency exit. Building codes require exits be available. In addition, the game monitor watches your group, provides clues and helps in the event of an emergency.
Am I put with strangers in the room?
No. This is a private room booking. You reserve the room for 2 to 8 players. You can add players after your reservation by emailing qbennion@gmail.com.
Do I have to be good at math?
No. Most of the puzzles are logical, ciphers or patterns. Typically the room puzzles do not require more than fourth grade math. Usually someone in your group will have plenty of math skills to solve the puzzles.
How difficult is the escape room?
The Mystery at Hotel Vernal has a success rate of 40%. LabX has an escape rate of 40% also. Over half of the teams will fail, but still come away with an enjoyable and bonding experience for charity. Escape rooms are designed to be challenging so the escape is more of a thrill!
